The training activities carried out by this department can be grouped into five subject areas and include courses which cover the principal environmental concerns of senior business managers and Public Sector Administration.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS. In these courses trainees acquire the basic knowledge necessary to manage business environmental risks appropriately. The most important courses in this group are:
    • Risk identification and assessment tools.
    • Environmental risk management.
    • Insurance and environmental risk.
    • Environmental responsibility insurance.
  • ADAPTATION TO REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. These courses are aimed at facilitating business compliance with laws and regulations currently in force. There is a basic section covering the principal regulatory requirements and a more specific section which covers the current regulatory situation in more detail. Some of the courses are listed below:
    • Business environmental obligations.
    • The new regulatory framework for the management of potentially contaminated land.
    • The new regulatory framework concerning environmental responsibility.
  • POLLUTION CONTROL. These training activities look at business pollution control techniques and mechanisms available to businesses. The following courses are available:
    • Optimum waste management programmes.
    • Waste minimisation plans.
    • Means of providing soil protection.
    • Environmental emergency plans: Intervention to minimise environmental damage.
    • Means of ensuring containment.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT. The courses in this area take an in-depth look at how to improve business environmental management. Their principal objectives are the reduction of negative environmental impact and the promotion of improved interaction with the environment. The courses in this area include:
    • An introduction to business environmental management.
    • Basic environmental awareness in management systems covered by ISO 14000/EMAS.
    • Using environmental indicators to control business activities.
    • Management tools: Eco-design and Eco-efficiency.
  • NEW TRENDS. The following courses have been developed to promote awareness of the most recent environmental ideas and trends. They are of interest to all businesses committed to environmental protection:
    • Adapting business management to climate change.
    • Corporate social responsibility in small and medium-sized businesses.
    • Energy audit benefits.
    • Alternative energies and business management.
