Training Needs Analysis

The objective of this analysis is to gain information which allows training plans to be devised to match the real needs of the business, taking into account its current situation in addition to its medium and long-term objectives.

To accomplish this, an in-depth analysis is carried out of all the variables that could influence requirements for human resource development:

  • Short and medium-term demands of today’s competitive markets.
  • Current legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Technological changes.
  • Objectives and strategic guidelines for the training campaign.
  • The competencies required for the jobs or functions being carried out.
  • Each person’s current level of competencies.
  • And so on.

The operational results of the analysis are:

  • Definition of key competences and levels of complexity to be addressed in the training campaign.
  • Definition of the competency level necessary for each post, function or occupation (short and medium-term)
  • Measurement of each person’s current level of competencies.
  • The prioritising of identified training needs and the establishment of a realistic plan to address them.

A number of different tools are used for information collection and analysis. These include semi-structured interviews with senior management and departmental heads, meetings with experienced technical specialists, group work, surveys, and tests to evaluate knowledge, procedures, values, and so on.
