Our principal areas of experience

With specific regard to the development of instruments used in environment risk assessment, we would like to highlight the following:

  • The development of a software tool, PERMAP, which facilitates inspections and automatic risk assessments. This tool was developed at the request of the group of companies that form the POOL ESPAÑOL DE RIESGOS AMBIENTALES (an organisation created by the POOL de Compañías de Seguro y Reaseguro to provide insurance cover for industries that work with risks that could result in accidental environmental pollution).
  • The design of an assessment system for the Preliminary Safety Reports on Land Conditions required by R.D. 9/2005. This system was designed at the request of the Waste Service Department of the Andalusian Ministry of the Environment.
  • The development by ITSEMAP of a methodology to perform “semi-quantitative assessment of environmental risks” and its application in sectors such as aluminium surface treatment, ceramic manufacturing and pig farming. The methodology provides a comprehensive view of environmental risks organised in order of severity.
  • The application of the above methodology in the chlorine and alkaline industrial sectors to verify the risk reductions obtained as a result of procedural and process improvements such as BAT.
  • The application of methodologies to assess the environmental risks associated with serious industrial accidents, principally in relation with the Proposed 15008 Regulation.
  • More than 100 detailed inspections for the group of companies that form the POOL DE RIESGOS AMBIENTALES ESPAÑOL. The objective of these inspections is to provide rapid determination of the most significant environmental risks and to look at their implications on insurance cover for environmental civil responsibility. The sectors affected are those covered by the Law on Waste, such as waste management companies and producers of large quantities of waste.

Experience in developing projects of Environmental Due Diligence covering three phases: identification of contamination risks, detailed research and analysis to confirm the identification, and remedying the risk. Due to the confidential nature of these projects, specific references have not been included here, but we would like to point out work in which environmental liability was valued at 40% of the total value of the sales operation.
