As stipulated in the R.D. 681/2003, businesses handling flammable or combustible substances must carry out explosion risk assessment and prepare the Explosion Protection Document.
Why must the ATEX directive be applied?
- In industrial processes numerous flammable or combustible substances exist which can create an explosive atmosphere upon contact with air, thereby creating the risk of explosion.
- The law obliges businesses to assess these risks and, in accordance with the results obtained, to adopt all organisational or technical measures necessary to control them.
Who must apply the directive?
All businesses handling flammable or combustible substances in the form of gases, vapours, mists or combustible dusts.
