Application of SEVESO Directive

print

As stipulated in the R.D. 1254/1999 and subsequent modifications (the R.D. 119/2005 and the R.D. 948/2005), businesses with dangerous substances in their workplaces must control the associated risks in such a way that people, fixed assets and the environment are afforded a high-degree of protection.

Why must the SEVESO directive be applied?

Dangerous substances present in certain businesses constitute an immediate or potential future risk both in inside and outside the premises. Therefore, the businesses concerned must:

  • Assess the risks inherent in the processes they carry out and adopt measures both to prevent and limit possible negative consequences.
  • Introduce emergency plans to limit the effects of an explosion, should one occur.

Who must apply the directive?

All businesses containing dangerous substances in quantities greater than those shown in Annex I of the R.D. 948/2005.
